''A near masterpiece,'' according to the
The film constantly left the audience on the edge of the seat, as well as lulling them into a false of sense of security many times. Realism was enforced when drugs and money was the centre of violence. From the film, I chose key examples which included great suspense through the use of mise en scene, setting and camera shots.
At the beginning we see a man who starts to move whilst cuffed by an officer. We then observe the police officer turns his back on the man and sits down at the telephone.
Unsure of what he is doing, the convict then gets up, and quietly stands behind the officer who is still on the phone. As audience, we are uneasy and tensed, as we don't know what is going to happen. This is an example of suspense as the viewers are left reeling about what is going to happen.
The convict then chokes the officer to death by getting out of the handcuffs. Because of the violence and atrocity, we are let shocked. This is because the killing of an officer is not usual to us.
In another scene, we see how an innocent man is killed because of money. Non diegetic sound is used so therfore this enforces realism. This makes us tensed because it is as if it is happening in real life as a real life setting is shown which included a motel.
