Analysis of 9 shots from art of the title sequence

The art of the title of Haloweeen appeals to me as it is very simplistc. Throughout the whole title sequence the same image of a pumpkin as well as the colour of the writing is maintaned which has connotations of horror. The black background contrasts the colour of the writing and the pumpkin which tells us that this is going to be a horror movie.

skills audit: Filming and editing preliminary match cut exercise

Todays lesson consisted of us creating and editing the preliminay match cut. Even though filming our preliminary match cut went well, uploading the video was quite difficult. In addition, we had to make sure all of our clips flowed effective throught so that the film can be viewed correctly. what is most vital about the preliminary match cut is to remmber to the 180 degree rule.
Skills Audit: Livetype and sound

Livetype pro, a programme which helps create the title sequence of a movie. This is one of my favourite programs alongside with soundtrack pro,as both programs are easy to navigate. In addtion there amazing effects which can be used.
Furthermore, in livetype pro you can change the speed and glow of the text.
Soundtrack pro contains amazing sound which can be easily edited. My group creating various types of sound which hopefully can help us with our film, adding tension and suspence. It took us only one lesson to get use to both programmes. One complication was on saving the file in soundtrack pro as you had to export them first.
News and current affairs events

Police are guarding a man in a London hospital after three members of the same family were stabbed to death at a Bethnal Green tower block.
Four-year-old Fahmeda Khatun, her mother Nurjhan Khatun, 31, and 35-year-old uncle Kamal Uddin died following the incident which neighbours described as a "bloodbath".
The injured man is Ms Khatun's estranged husband, whose condition in hospital is described as "serious".
He is being treated as a suspect in the murders.
officers found the victims' mutilated bodies when they arrived at Sivill House shortly before 2100 BST on Thursday.
A post mortem has revealed that Mr Uddin and his niece died from head injuries while Ms Khatun died from multiple injuries.
Carpenter Rodney Davill, who lives next door in Sivill House, Columbia Road, found the bodies. He said someone rang his bell frantically from the intercom outside the building at about 2030 BST.A man shouted, `Let me in, let me in'. I said I could not because of security reasons," he added."I then heard two massive screams. I just ran out of my flat and went round the corner."I went to the flat and I saw the mutilated body of a woman.
Pajamas Banned in UK Supermarket Tesco, Angry Shoppers Call Dress Code 'Snobbish'
UK supermarket chain Tesco is laying down the law with a new dress code banning bare feet and "nightwear," the Daily Mail reports. To avoid causing embarrassment to others we ask that our customers are appropriately dressed when visiting our store (footwear must be worn at all times and no nightwear is permitted)," signs posted at the store's entrance reportedly say."We do not have a strict dress code but we don't want people shopping in their nightwear in case it offends other customers," a Tesco spokesman told the source."We're not a nightclub with a strict dress code, and jeans and trainers [sneakers] are of course more than welcome. We do, however, request that customers do not shop in their PJs or nightgowns."
Teenage girl given life for cigarette row murder
A teenage girl has been jailed for life for killing a Fife grandmother during a row over £5 and a borrowed cigarette.Nicolle Earley - one of Scotland's youngest female murderers - was 16 when she killed Ann Gray in her home in Crosshill on 14 November 2008.At the High Court in Edinburgh, Earley, now 18, was ordered to serve a minimum of 14 years in prison. The victim's family said the sentence was "a joke" and said Earley should have had a minimum term of 30 years. Mrs Gray, 63, died as a result of a head injury after she was knocked to the ground and repeatedly stamped on. Earley pleaded guilty to the murder last month. Judge Lady Dorrian said she had reduced the minimum sentence from 15 years because of Earley's guilty plea. The judge said: "There is only one sentence I can pass following a plea of guilty to murder and that is detention for life." Outside court, Mrs Gray's daughters said they hoped Earley would never be freed from custody.
Anne-Marie McLeod, 44, said she was "very angry" following the hearing.Ms McLeod said she would have liked to have seen a minimum sentence of 20 to 30 years for her mother's murder. Unemployed Earley was living with her grandmother, who stayed in the same street as Mrs Gray and was friends with the victim, at the time of the murder. Advocate depute Morag Jack said that on the day before the fatal attack Mrs Gray had apparently borrowed a cigarette from Earley on the understanding she would get two in return the next day. Mrs Gray was pushed to the ground and suffered a fractured jaw and broken cheek bone along with a fractured bone in her upper neck. Defence solicitor advocate Gordon Martin said Earley, who has a previous conviction for assault, came from "a particularly troubled background" and was involved in trouble at school.
On Wednesday 10Th February 2010 my group filmed a 1 minute clip mainly using and focusing on reverse shot, match cut and 180 degrees angle.
We showed a very clear understanding of the 180 degree rule. Also with match cut we used this when Imranul was making an entry to the door, this tends to work and looks very well inside our clip. We had an understanding with reverse shots although in our clip we didn't quite use it as well or continuously as we should have.
The transitions between the shots where a bit jumpy, however we were able to work together and put it into a continuing sequence where it made sense to the audience. The length of edits was a bit too long in certain places and in a way makes it obvious to audience what is going to happen and doesn't really get them thinking. In other words because we haven't used reverse shots properly etc it tends to break the 'rhythm' of the sequence. Normally there is another type of shot between these shots such as dialogue, action story and shots to provide a flow.
Noticing these mistakes it makes it easier and better for me to understand that the next time i will be aware of what to do.
match cut prelim
In todays lesson, we edited our preliminary match cut which consisted of me going to a room and exchanging a few lines of dialogue with another character. we showed our understanding of the 180 degree rule by keeping the camera on one side of the 2 characters and we also included match cutting which was done by me opening the door. Also we did a shot reverse shot of the conversation.
There were a couple of problems that occurred during our filming. One of the problems was the match-cut. When filming the match-cut there was an odd shot when the camera was paused for the main match-cut. The shot was misplaced as I moved out of position for the next shot. Another problem was the shot reverse shot. The shot reverse shot was meant to be throughout the whole discussion with the two characters. But we only did this for two shots and made the rest of the discussion a mid shot of both of the characters talking.
Recognising these mistakes makes it easier for me to improve my work for the next time I do filming.
Me and my group were told to film a short clip which should include three things. These three things are the 180 degrees angle, a shot-reverse-shot and a match cut.
When we were filming we did include these things but our shot-reverse-shot was not done properly. This was too short and the dialogue shot was too long.
Our 180 degrees rule was good and so was our match cut.
Our editing was not perfect, we had a few little odd edits but as this is our first time I think it was alright. Me and my group are happy with what we have come up with seeing as it is our first time filming and editing. There were some shots that didn't come out right, so we filmed some the shots twice or maybe even three times. Then we chose the right one that fits into our short clip and used it.
To edit our clip we use the software called Livewire. This software allows you to edit the clips that you have filmed so that the video comes looks professional.
Match cut prelim
During the lesson today we filmed two people in a dilemma. In this clip we had to add a match-cut, a 180 degrees angle and a shot reverse shot. The match-cut was done with 'Imranul' opening the door and entering the scene. The 180 degrees angle is moving the camera only on one side of the characters, as if you switch sides when editing it will look unrealistic because the characters would be on opposite sides. The shot reverse shot is shots of the characters having a conversation where the camera switches from one face to another, an over the shoulder shot.
Throughout this filming there were advantages as well as disadvantages. Firstly the advantages. Getting the whole plot together was a easy and good way of communicating with my team members. The equipment, characters and scene went all fine this was a positive start. We filmed some shots twice so that we could get the most accurate one when editing. The background sound was not a problem as we could edit it and erase the sound or add sound over it.
Secondly disadvantages. When filming the match-cut there was an odd shot as the pose that 'Imranul' was standing in was misplaced. We filmed him in one position but then paused the camera as we had to to the match-cut of the door closed. Also, another problem was that we did not do the shot reverse shot for long. The shot reverse shot was meant to be for the whole conversation but we only did it for a short time.
This was a good opportunity as next time we will be aware of these mistakes and will be able to improve and make changes.

List of Thriller Subgenres-Which inspires you at the moment and why?
Serial Killer Thriller
From hell (2001)This is when a serial killer is terrorizing a number of people. The serial killer tends to be more concentrated on in this film. A serial killer murdered and mutilated at least five prostitutes in the East End of London in 1888 and because no one was ever arrested or tried for the murders, crime buffs are still fascinated with the Jack the Ripper case more than 115 years later.
Religious Thriller
Popularized by the blockbuster The Da Vinci Code, this subgenre uses the rich and long history of religion to build stories with high stakes and deadly politics.Action thriller
An action thriller can have certain features such as a race against time, violence, fighting and an obvious antagonist. The film would most probably include things such as guns, explosions, car races and other related things. E.g: The Bourne Identity/Supremacy/Ultimatum.
